Manufacturing Issues

As with many other basic materials that are so much a part of society that we just cannot imagine life without them, glass manufacturing is an energy-intensive and, to some degree, materials-intensive economic activity. Thus the main issues surrounding the manufacture of glass are environmental.

The key to addressing these issues and to responsible and sustainable manufacture of this critical material is the industry's commitment to continual improvement of energy-efficiency in manufacturing and continuing to tighten the already-high performance in the area of emissions to air, water, and soil from manufacturing activities.
