Energy Labelling of Windows

Directive 2010/30/EU on the indication by labelling and standard product information of the consumption of energy and other resources by energy-related products provides a clear framework for the EU to introduce a Window Energy Labelling.

Energy labelling of windows has been introduced in some Member States - for example Denmark, Finland and the UK. The UK BFRC scheme on window energy labelling has proved very efficient in communicating to the general public about the energy saving properties of high performance products thus contributing to their faster uptake. Glass for Europe strongly believed that window energy labelling should be generalized throughout the EU as European citizens deserve the right to be explained in a simple manner which products are most energy-efficient for their homes.

There is every reason to believe that, if designed appropriately and taking into account the greater climatic conditions and construction practices across Europe, an EU-wide scheme could work and thus contribute to sustainable consumption and energy savings.

Therefore Glass for Europe is ready to engage with European authorities to develop a proper methodology for an EU-wide window energy label.
