Proposed Directive on the Heating and Cooling of Buildings by Renewable Energy

Discussions have been taking place within the Commission for some time about proposing a Directive on renewable energy in buildings. In the view of Glass for Europe, it would be highly desirable to introduce such a Directive to encourage the uptake of technologies such as photovoltaics. Indeed, we believe such a Directive is essential if the Commission’s Energy Policy target of having renewables meet 20% of demand by 2020 is to be achieved. Glass for Europe is therefore concerned about recent suggestions that the Directive might not proceed. We urge the Commission to give a firm commitment to the early development of a Directive on renewables in buildings.
