Building Glass Standards & Specifications
The products of Glass for Europe's member companies for the construction sector are subject to numerous rigorous and strict quality and performance assurance mechanisms, including detailed technical specifications.
Among these technical specifications are requirements that have been formalised under EU law and applied via the main European standardisation body, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN). These are known as Harmonised Standards.
The legal framework within which the European Commission mandates CEN to adopt these standards is the Construction Products Directive.
Products that have been ascertained, according to legally prescribed methods, to be in conformity with the relevant standards are permitted to carry the CE Mark. Because this mark testifies that the product meets the stringent requirements laid out in the applicable standards, it is, in practice, a guarantee of the quality and performance of the product.
